Up 26% in Three Days, FIGS Has Filed Nothing: What Lifted It?

Seoul — U.S. stocks slipped on Oct. 12 as tech sold off: the S&P 500 fell 0.06%, the Nasdaq 0.44% and the small-cap Russell 2000 0.45%. Against that, FIGS (FIGS) rose 12.42% and Fair Isaac (FICO) rose 10.85%, yet neither company had a filing that explains the move.

FIGS: only a report of a coming Wall Street meeting, and no filing

FIGS recent price and volume

FIGS rose 12.42% to $17.74, its third straight gain. That is 26.2% above the Oct. 7 close of $14.06, and Investing.com reported the stock hit a 52-week high above $17.48 during the session. Dollar volume was about $200.4 million and market capitalization about $2.95 billion.

Only one outlet offered a reason. TipRanks ran a story headlined "FIGS Stock Climbs As Wall Street Meeting Looms," and the headline does not say which meeting. Kalkine, by contrast, asked whether the stock can extend its gain with an RSI of 75.3 and "No Catalyst Found." FIGS has filed nothing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in the past seven days. There is no earnings report, contract or deal on paper, so expectations appear to be doing the work.

The climb is steep, though. The stock is up 30.2% from five trading days ago after spending weeks near $13. Two things are worth checking: whether the company puts news or meeting details in an 8-K (a current report on major events), and whether volume stays near $200 million on the next trading day.

Fair Isaac: no confirmed reason, and the restructuring 8-K is six days old

Fair Isaac recent price and volume

Fair Isaac rose 10.85% to $740, and no filing or report identifies a cause for Monday's move. Most coverage calls it a rebound from recent selling: Seeking Alpha wrote that it was "rebounding from recent selling," and Traders Union described renewed buying and an intraday breakout. Dollar volume was about $1.45 billion, far above FIGS.

The company did file an 8-K. In the Item 2.05 (exit and disposal costs) 8-K dated Oct. 6, Fair Isaac said that on Oct. 1 it committed to a plan to cut about 15% of positions, with pre-tax charges of about $27.0 million in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026. But the stock rose only 0.85% on Oct. 6, so it is hard to call that the cause of today's jump. The $27 million is under 0.2% of the roughly $15.98 billion market cap.

The backdrop is the 26.52% one-day plunge on Sept. 29, from $840.89 to $617.87. Monday's close is 19.8% above that low but still 12.0% below the pre-plunge price and 20.7% below the Sept. 8 close, so this may be a partial recovery. Watch whether the stock keeps moving back toward $840.89, and whether the restructuring charge shows up in results as a one-time item.
