Skydance Up 11% on a Malone Remark About SpaceX, and No Filing Says So

Three U.S. stocks rose more than 10% on Oct. 21, and only Strive had SEC filings in the picture. Skydance moved on a remark attributed to John Malone, and no reason has surfaced for Alamar Biosciences.

Skydance Up 11% on a Malone Remark About SpaceX, and No Filing Says So

Seoul — Date of record: Oct. 21, 2026, U.S. regular-session close. We covered the three stocks that rose 10% or more.

U.S. stocks closed higher on Oct. 21, with the S&P 500 up 0.58%, the Nasdaq Composite up 1.05% and the Russell 2000 small-cap index up 0.27%. Of the three stocks that gained more than 10%, Strive (ASST), Alamar Biosciences (ALMR) and Skydance (SKYD), only Strive had company filings that fill in the background. Strive (ASST): up 13.6% two days after a 15% preferred-stock filing, though the filings don't explain the move

Strive, Inc. recent price and volume

Strive closed at $30.75, up 13.64%, after gains of 20.4% over two days and 24.6% over five. Dollar volume was about $436.5 million. From the Oct. 16 close of $24.09 the stock is up 27.6% in three sessions, and its market value is about $3.1 billion.

Filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission give the background. An 8-K (Item 8.01) filed Oct. 21 says the board declared the first cash dividend on its 15.00% Series A Perpetual SATS Preferred Stock: $0.8710 per share, record date Nov. 6, payment date Nov. 9. An 8-K filed Oct. 20 (Items 3.03, 5.03, 8.01, 9.01) refers to an underwritten offering of 7,000,000 SATS shares led by Barclays and Cantor Fitzgerald, and on Oct. 16 the company filed an 8-K (Items 1.01, 8.01, 9.01), a 424B5 prospectus supplement and an FWP. At the $100 stated amount per share, 7 million shares is $700 million, about 23% of market value, and a 15% rate implies $105 million a year (about 3.4% of market value). That is stated value, not proceeds, and the dividends are paid only when the board declares them.

What the filings do not say is why the stock rose. News outlets tied the same day's gain to a bitcoin price eyeing $85,000 (Bitcoin News, Invezz). The stock fell 6.08% on Oct. 16, the day of the offering filings, then rose three sessions in a row. Because a preferred issue is financing separate from the common stock, it is hard to separate its effect from bitcoin's.

To judge whether the rise lasts, watch whether the Nov. 6 record date and Nov. 9 first payment go ahead as filed, and whether volume stays near $400 million a day. Whether the stock moves with bitcoin on down days is also worth tracking.

Alamar Biosciences (ALMR): no known reason for the 11.7% rise

Alamar Biosciences, Inc. recent price and volume

Alamar Biosciences closed at $31.45, up 11.68%, and no company filing explains it. The only filing in the past week is a Form 4 (insider transaction report) dated Oct. 19, and no news points to a catalyst. The only coverage is a movers roundup from Business Upturn titled "Top Movers: Strive and Alamar Lead Wednesday Gains as Arcus Tumbles."

Nearby reports lean toward selling. Stock Titan reported four Qiming holders sold 173,673 shares on Oct. 15 and 16, and MarketBeat reported a major shareholder sold about $4.81 million of stock. The shares fell 38.3% from $38.13 on Oct. 5 to $23.52 on Oct. 13, then rebounded 33.7%, which still leaves them 17.5% below the Oct. 5 level. The move looks like a partial retracement, but its cause is not confirmed. Dollar volume of $35.9 million is far below the other two.

To judge whether it lasts, watch whether the company announces something itself through an 8-K, such as a contract or clinical or business news, and whether major-shareholder sales keep appearing in Form 4s. A rise with no stated reason often gives back its gains the next day.

Skydance (SKYD): up 10.9% on reports of Malone's SpaceX investment remarks (no company announcement)

Skydance Corporation recent price and volume

Skydance rose 10.85% to $7.87 on reports that John Malone predicted SpaceX could invest $8 billion to $10 billion in the company. The reports appear in headlines from Seeking Alpha, Stocktwits and Yahoo Finance. It is Malone's own forecast, not a deal announced by Skydance or SpaceX.

The filings are unrelated to that story. The past week's list shows an S-8 (equity-plan registration) on Oct. 21, Form 4s on Oct. 19 and 20, and an 8-K (Item 5.04) on Oct. 16. That 8-K notifies insiders of a 401(k) trading blackout tied to the merger that closed Oct. 6 and does not mention SpaceX. Another reading is a rebound from the 23.84% drop on Oct. 14: Yahoo Finance and Pluang described the move as a rebound after a warrant selloff. At $7.87 the stock is still 15.1% below the $9.27 close of Oct. 13. If the investment happened as predicted it would equal roughly 20% to 25% of the $39.7 billion market value, a measure of the story's size and not a fact.

To judge whether it lasts, watch whether Skydance or SpaceX confirms talks through an 8-K or press release. Without that, the rise rests on a remark. Also watch how much of the Oct. 14 drop is recovered as post-merger warrant supply gets absorbed.
