Seoul — U.S. stocks fell on Nov. 2: the S&P 500 lost 0.51% to 7,541.40, the Nasdaq Composite lost 1.07% to 25,164.32 and the Russell 2000 small-cap index lost 0.21% to 2,805.88. IDEXX and Newell Brands filed quarterly results with the SEC, while Nextpower has no filing that directly explains the day's jump, only a brokerage report.

IDEXX Laboratories rose on an earnings beat, though it trimmed its margin outlook

IDEXX Laboratories recent price and volume

IDEXX Laboratories rose 21.85% because its third-quarter results beat expectations and its 2026 outlook went up. The company filed an 8-K (a current report to the SEC) under Item 2.02, the earnings item, on Nov. 2, along with its 10-Q quarterly report. The 8-K text only attaches the press release and carries no figures, so the beat and raised outlook come from a Seeking Alpha headline ('Q3 beat, raised outlook').

The same results cut both ways. A Yahoo report says sales rose 10% and the company raised its 2026 earnings forecast but trimmed its margin outlook. The stock had fallen 4.30% to $551.21 on Oct. 30 and closed at $671.64, adding roughly $9.5 billion to a market value of about $52.9 billion. Dollar volume was about $1.31 billion.

Heat check: 1 of 4 overheating signals, labeled 'caution'. The 14-day RSI was 80.3, above the 80 threshold, the price was 21.9% above its 20-day average, and volume was 3.5 times normal. It sits at 64% of its 52-week range, 12.4% below the 52-week high and 17.3% above the 200-day line. It passes 5 of 6 fundamentals checks but its P/E of 47.2 is above the 25 cutoff, and these snapshot figures may predate this quarter's results. The filing is an earnings report, positive going by the reports.

Two things show whether the gain holds. One is the 10-Q just filed: does it explain whether the lower margin outlook reflects temporary costs or something lasting? The other is whether dollar volume stays near $1.3 billion the next day and the close stays above the Oct. 29 high of $575.98.

Newell Brands filed on Friday, but the stock jumped on Monday

Newell Brands recent price and volume

Newell Brands rose 15.06% on a third-quarter sales beat and a raised outlook. Seeking Alpha reported a Q3 sales beat and raised outlook, and Yahoo summarized net sales up 3.7% and a higher full-year sales outlook. The company filed an 8-K under Item 2.02 and a 10-Q on Oct. 30. The 8-K text only attaches the press release, so the figures come from the reports.

On Oct. 30 itself the stock rose only 1.97%, and most of the gain came two days later. There is no confirmed reason for the delay. Headlines from MarketBeat and Investing.com show that Citigroup and UBS changed price targets on the stock, which may have fed Monday's move. The company has a market value of about $2.5 billion, and dollar volume was about $95.6 million.

Heat check: 0 of 4 signals, 'normal'. RSI was 56.8, the price 7.6% above its 20-day average, and volume 3.1 times normal. It is 23.0% above its 200-day line and 6.3% below its 52-week high. It passes only 2 of 6 fundamentals checks: it is unprofitable and fails the debt test, and again the snapshot may predate this quarter. The filing is an earnings report, neutral in itself.

First, check whether Monday's volume of 3.1 times normal carries into the next session. Second, read the net loss and debt lines in the Oct. 30 10-Q, which matter as much as the sales beat.

Nextpower rose on a brokerage pick, not on a filing

Nextpower recent price and volume

Nextpower rose 14.87% after Jefferies reportedly named it a franchise pick. Seeking Alpha and TIKR headlines say Jefferies put Nextpower in the spot GE Vernova held. That is a brokerage view, so no company filing confirms it.

The company's own filing is an Oct. 28 8-K (Items 2.02, 5.02 and 9.01) covering fiscal second-quarter results and a board expansion from ten to twelve seats with two new directors. On Nov. 2 it filed a 10-Q and Forms 3 and 4 (insider holdings); a Stock Titan headline says a new director received 2,547 stock units. None of these explains Monday's jump. Still, Timothy Sykes headlines say the company beat Q2 and raised its 2027 outlook, which may be the backdrop to the pick.

Heat check: 0 of 4 signals, 'normal'. RSI was 52.8, the price 10.4% above its 20-day average, and volume 2.4 times normal. Despite the jump, the stock sits at 18% of its 52-week range, 41.7% below its 52-week high and 14.7% below its 200-day line. It passes 5 of 5 fundamentals checks (P/E 23.0, revenue growth 22.5%), though the snapshot may predate the latest quarter. The 8-K is neutral.

To judge whether this lasts, watch whether other brokers echo Jefferies. Also watch whether the stock regains its 200-day line and whether dollar volume stays near Monday's roughly $502 million.
