5 of 8 Filing-Backed Surges Gave Back Gains Within a Week
We re-checked this week's surging stocks by verdict. Even names with filings mostly fell, and report-only moves fell further.

Seoul — Five of the eight filing-backed surges we covered this week fell afterward, averaging -1.7%. Report-only moves did worse, averaging -6.3% across nine stocks. The "no reason" group averaged +0.6% across five, but only one stock rose.

This week's market
Paper Trail's own market notes show Korea fared far worse than the U.S. The KOSPI fell 2.08% and the KOSDAQ fell 5.42%. The notes point to chip-competition worries and foreign selling as likely causes, but say they could not confirm specific reports this week.
In the U.S., large caps slipped. The S&P 500 fell 0.43% and the Nasdaq 100 fell 0.76%. The SMH chip ETF fell 2.33%. Only the Russell 2000 rose, up 1.96%. The notes link that to the 10-year yield, which slid 2.16% on the week to 4.99%.
Friday's closes: KOSPI 5,550.30 (+0.3%), KOSDAQ 751.69 (-1.62%), S&P 500 7,623.68 (-0.52%), Nasdaq Composite 25,955.34 (-0.21%).
What happened to last week's movers

| Giantstep (289220) | Unverified | +3.25% | -1.4% | Exchange inquiry reply: no material information |

Four stocks had no trading day since our articles, so we left them out of the comparison. Our Robert Half article covers the Oct. 24 entries. Speco and Giantstep are in the Oct. 23 article, and Biohaven is in the Oct. 22 piece.
Filings fared best, but only 3 of 8 rose: Veradermics (+13.5%), Plito (+4.4%) and Braze (+0.7%). Disc Medicine (-5.6%), Hyein (-6.1%) and SKAI (-9.0%) fell despite confirmed news, as did Biohaven. A filing did not guarantee what came next.
Report-only moves split. SM Vexel (-20.0%), KBI Dongyang Steel Pipe (-23.7%), MS Bio (-23.5%) and Hyungji Elite (-17.1%) fell hard. Bigwave Robotics (+16.2%) and DTS (+6.1%) rose. Four of nine rose.
The "no reason" average is positive only because of Ellis (+13.9%). The other four ranged from -1.4% to -3.7%. With 5 to 8 stocks per group, the sample is small. This is a record of past moves, not investment advice.
