Why Curiox and Suprema Stocks Fell: 4-5x the KOSDAQ Drop

Why Curiox and Suprema Stocks Fell: 4-5x the KOSDAQ Drop

Seoul — Curiox Biosystems closed down 19.14% and Suprema down 17.12% on Oct. 30. The KOSDAQ index fell 3.83% the same day. Company-side causes show up in filings for both: a contract cancellation at Curiox and third-quarter results at Suprema. The market drop overlapped, so the full decline cannot be pinned on the companies alone.

According to Paper Trail's own check records, both stocks were picked from the biggest closing losers today. Filings come from DART. Some figures come from news reports.

Curiox Biosystems: down 19% after a contract cancellation, and the cause is on file

A contract cancellation filing appeared at 6:53 a.m. on Oct. 29. Vegan News reported the cancelled China equipment contract at 2.7 billion won. That amount comes from news. On Oct. 27 the company filed a Q3 operating loss of about 4.0 billion won, against 2.7 billion a year earlier, on revenue of 1.5 billion won. The data cannot say which of the two triggered today's drop. The stock rose 1.7% and 0.32% on Oct. 27 and 28, then fell 3.37% in the Oct. 29 regular session. Yonhap reported a drop of more than 10% in after-market trading that day.

The other side counts too. The four filings from the last seven days include no rights offering, convertible bond, treasury share disposal or insider sale. Two of the four are short-sale overheating designations, on Oct. 20 and 26. Part of today's fall also reflects the KOSDAQ's 3.83% drop on foreign and institutional selling. At the close, resting buy orders were 1,684 against 471 sell orders.

How far it fell: 28.0% below its three-month high (a 68,100 won close on Oct. 16) and down 18.2% over five days. It is still up 26.9% from Aug. 3. It sits at 14% of its 52-week range, 64.6% below the 52-week high and 35.3% below the 200-day average. Volume ran 3.9 times normal and RSI was 46.4, rated "normal." The stock fell 23.95% on Oct. 20 and rose 18.15% the next day, so swings are wide. Earnings-strength data is not available.

Suprema: second straight sharp drop after Q3 results, with an operating profit but a net loss

An operating-results disclosure came out at 6:51 a.m. on Oct. 29. Per news reports, Q3 revenue was 32.8 billion won (up 8.2%) and operating profit about 5.7 billion won (down 13%). Digital Today reported a net loss of about 12.6 billion won, a swing to a loss. That figure rests on news alone, and this data does not show the cause. The stock fell 12.32% on Oct. 29 and 17.12% today. The 45,500 won close is a three-month low.

The other side: Paper Trail's own check shows 5 of 5 earnings-strength items passed. They are profitability, positive free cash flow, debt, ROE of at least 10% and revenue growth. The last seven days of filings also show no rights offering, treasury share disposal or insider sale. This check may predate the Q3 net loss.

How far it fell: 28.6% below its three-month high (a 63,700 won close on Aug. 10) and down 14.8% over five days. It sits at 45% of its 52-week range and 6.3% below the 200-day average. RSI was 35.2, short of an oversold reading, and volume ran 10.1 times normal. At the close, sell orders of 228 outweighed buy orders of 23.

What to check next

For Curiox, read the cancellation filing for the reason and the contract's size relative to sales, and watch whether the short-sale designation is lifted. For Suprema, check the Q3 report for whether the net loss came from operations or non-operating items, and whether the sell backlog clears next session. This data gives no next earnings date for either company.
